About
Growing up in a Chinese-German household based in Paris, Felicitas Yang had a multicultural upbringing. She originally wanted to become a painter until falling in love with cinema while taking a film class in high school. After graduating, she went on to study directing at the New York Film Academy, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2016. She then worked on filmsets as a camera assistant and occasionally as a cinematographer in Los Angeles and then Berlin, before moving back to Paris in 2020 where she redirected her focus on photography. Felicitas shoots exclusively analog. Her work comprises landscape and street photography, with an emphasis on details. She’s developed as a result a preference for telephoto lenses, which enable her to single out specific subjects while blurring the deliniation of their original context. These photos are then paired with other images to create intuited stories, or rather poems, similarly to a film editor. As a result, the sequencing of her photos, becomes an intrinsic part of her work.
