About

For the exhibition “ , - . ” (aka “punctuation”), gallery Espace Temps (Paris) invited Armando Milano and Felicitas Yang to create a film in theme with the photo series’ essence. “There is no why” is a short adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s “Slaughter House Five”, which was the basis for the photo series’ creation.

the film is a blend of practical and digital effects, combining macro shots - filmed using an aquarium - and computer-generated images. The story focuses on the alien race of the Tralfamadorians, who are able to travel through time. The idea of the Tralfamadorians plays with concepts from the laws of general relativity, imagining that they are not limited by gravity and hence the curvature of space-time. As opposed to the Tralfamadorians, we are bound to live under the pull of gravity. The fantasy of detaching from this pull, and thereby living (like the protagonist, Billy Pilgrim) outside of time, illustrates the desire to break free from the constraints of linear time—a dream that filmmaking can, to some extent, bring to life.
